Fire Prevention and Public Education

The goal of Rural/Metro's Fire Prevention Department is to reduce life and property loss in the communities we serve by conducting an aggressive proactive approach to fire fighting. Programs to accomplish this include, code compliance inspections, fire cause investigation, fire & life safety education programs, fire detection and protection and plans reviews & approvals.
Fire Prevention inspections are a means of identifying and reducing hazards which might result in life or property loss. Inspections are conducted in all classes of commercial, industrial, health care, residential and educational occupancies.

Fire Prevention personnel investigate to determine the origin and cause of all fires that involve death or injury, substantial financial loss, or are suspicious in nature, where and why fires are occurring must be analyzed to detect special hazards, products, processes or procedures that endanger life and property. Fire & Life Safety Education is responsible for efforts aimed at increasing public awareness in methods of reducing injuries, death and property loss. Other major awareness programs during the year include fire prevention displays, fire prevention week activities, numerous presentations at schools, businesses and civic groups. Rural/Metro firmly believes that fire and safety education must begin at an early age. Teaching our children fire safety and life saving skills is top priority.

Rural/Metro has a variety of programs for the community to address fire safety and safety issues in general.
For our youngest citizens, we offer car seat inspection and training. In the preschools and elementary schools, children are taught the basics of fire safety in programs tailored to their age levels. Station tours are available at any time to children of all ages.
Through our speakers bureau we will address groups on any topic of interest, such as pool safety, furnace start-up, Christmas tree safety, barbecue safety, home fire and general safety topics. Trained Rural/Metro personnel also provide programs in CPR and fire extinguisher use.
Anyone is welcome to drop into any of our stations at any time for a free blood pressure check.
